New target dates were set to complete the inspections and it is hoped to have them completed by January 31, 1997. Sandy Cifani will assist T. Sikorski and A. 5. WHMIS Update |
M. Thomas provided an update on Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training. Archives and Cultural Programs (Conservation Laboratory) staff were trained in conjunction with the ROM on March 3, 1996. A level 2 WHMIS refresher course was carried out on May 19, 1993, for Archives and Cultural Programs (Conservation Lab. and Archaeology) staff. 28 people at 77 Bloor St. W. were trained on Jan. 11/94. Since 1994, there have been very few new employees due to hiring restrictions. Most have been secondments or transfers-in from other Ministries and have already received WHMIS training through the former ministry. There have been 5 or 6 new hires at the Archives in the last 2 months. A WHMIS course will be provided in Feb/March and other staff at 77 Bloor will be invited to attend. There are no controlled substances used in the Ministry except in the Archaeology and Conservation Laboratories. Other options on how to deliver training to staff were discussed such as e-mails to managers and staff, Interministerial Training Committees in the Regions (IMLOPS and IMTDCs). |
WHMIS training to be provided by Human Resources Branch in Feb/March 1997. |
|
6. Health and Safety Boards |
This issue was raised at a previous meeting. The Committee feels it is a good idea to have all health and safety information in one location on each floor so that it is readily accessible and easily identifiable. We have six boards that could serve this purpose and 2 more are needed. Once the boards are in place, the inspection teams when completing their workplace inspections will notify M. Thomas if anything is missing or needs to be updated. |
Boards specifically for health and safety information to be centrally installed on each floor. |
|
7. WCB Claims |
There were no new WCB claims since the last meeting. | |
|
8. New Business |
(a) The issue of repetitive strain injuries was raised. It will be placed on the agenda for next meeting. (b) Fire extinguishers suitable for electrical fires. Place on agenda for next meeting. |
Defer to next meeting. |
